From small parts and archive boxes to bulky cartons and components, we’ll help you choose suitable shelf sizes, loading capacities and layouts.
We offer longspan shelving, small-parts storage, archive shelving and multi-tier systems, with a site survey, layout drawings and installation arranged around your requirements.
Types of Shelving
Shelving suits stock that is loaded and picked by hand. Where you also store full pallets, pallet racking can include hand-picking levels too, so we look at the whole operation before recommending a system.
Longspan Shelving
Wide, open bays for bulky cartons, components and awkward items. Longspan systems are available in a range of duties, from light stockroom use to heavier loads, depending on the system selected.
Small-Parts Shelving
Smaller bays for bins, boxes and parts, laid out to keep pick faces organised and easy to reach.
Archive Shelving
Shelf depths and spacing chosen to suit archive boxes and storage containers, making good use of the floor area and available height.
Multi-Tier Systems
Shelving built over two or more levels, with walkways between them. A multi-tier system needs suitable stairs, guarding along open edges and a safe way of moving goods between levels, and depending on its size and use it may need Building Regulations approval. We cover these in the design.
Survey, Design & Installation
Site Survey
We measure your space and available height, look at access and picking routes, and review the floor and any available information on it, arranging further investigation where needed.
Layout & Specification
We produce a layout drawing and specify suitable shelf and bay capacities using the manufacturer’s design information, based on your stock, carton sizes and weights.
Installation
Our installation teams assemble, level and fix the shelving, with fixing and bracing in accordance with the manufacturer’s design and instructions.
Handover
We check the installation, provide clear loading information for the equipment and its configuration, supply layout drawings and show your team how to use the shelving safely.
Inspections & Maintenance
Shelving still needs regular checks, even where it isn’t loaded by forklift. HSE guidance (HSG76) recommends regular visual checks, prompt reporting of damage and an expert inspection at least every 12 months. We can carry out inspections and repairs on shelving as well as pallet racking.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the system, the shelf span, the decking and how the load is placed. Each shelf level has its own capacity, and each bay has a separate total capacity, which is not simply the shelf capacity multiplied by the number of levels. We specify both to suit your stock and include them in the loading information we provide.
Options include manufacturer-specified chipboard decking, steel panels and wire mesh. The decking and finish are selected for the goods, loading, cleaning requirements and storage conditions. If your building has sprinklers, the storage layout, height and goods can affect the sprinkler design, so it’s worth checking with your fire safety adviser when your storage arrangements change.
Yes, most shelving lets you move shelf levels without dismantling the frames. Any changes must stay within the manufacturer’s permitted configurations and loading limits, and the loading information should be updated to match.
Most industrial concrete floors are suitable. We review the floor and the information available on it during the survey, and arrange further investigation where needed, particularly for heavier loads or multi-tier systems.
It depends on the size of the system and your site, so we agree a programme with you after the survey.
Usually, yes. Shelving can be dismantled and re-erected, subject to checking its condition, the new layout and loading, and the floor and fixing requirements at the new premises.
